10 Blates and 10 Wing bowls

10 Blates and 10 Wing bowls
Two forms whose colors match each other very nicely. Ten of each form. I’m thinking about Omakase, or other similarly very limited seating. These were fired in the anagama at Pleasant Hill Pottery, and for whatever reason, we got some very sexy shiny black that looks great against the orange tones. I haven’t really seen it out of that kiln in the same way since.
Ten “blates”, a word just trying to capture the fact that they are of wide open format but have a nice central area that can accommodate a sauce. A very multi-purpose form. Then there are ten “wing bowls”, which are a titch difficult to explain. They are oval in two directions, with the ends of the longest oval forming a pair of undulating wings while the deep oval of the bowl shape in the center is actually perpendicular to the other. So a customer ends up with a little finger-notch to cradle. Or they might be tempted to palm it entirely. Either way, it becomes a palm-sized bowl with a visually intriguing border.
Specs:
These are made of dirty porcelain, like all my woodfired work. They are fired to a temperature that renders them impervious to water (/bacteria). The color that you see is drawn out by the flame and is integrated with the clay. Which is to say, your industrial dishwasher will not erase it.
As far as stacking goes, I took my photos as honestly as I could. I didn’t straighten stacks or stage things, so you can see that even though they are handmade, they are pretty reliable in their variety. My hands have become machines after all this time. Color-wise, the camera was struggling a little, and I got a weird pink in the streaks, which isn’t quite right, but the vibrant orange is photo-accurate, as is the warm tan/orange and the black. (this is on a basic mac…)
*at the risk of repeating myself as you go shopping: for the moment, I am keeping groups intact, because I am reaching out to restaurants only with this page of offerings. Please let me know if you are interested in breaking a group and I will make a note to keep you informed. But quite importantly! I love commissions. If you want these in white porcelain, talk to me :) I don’t have any in stock, but they are much easier to make in white. All this woodfired work is super-rare and I won’t be making it again in this way, if ever.
