A covid project that was a new challenge of exacting standards. Getting the proportions right for a nesting group was to combine the mindset of a machinist while capturing the softness of a flower. Eventually I got most of them fired in the Yukti woodfiring kiln that I helped build at my friend’s house at Heartfire Sanctuary. The surfaces are raw clay, sanded to a soft matte texture, and the clay is vitrified such that it is safe for food, dishwasher, and the oven.

Pictured here are two “flowers”, or groups, as well as a platter with more bowls and ramekins. It just made sense in the kiln to fire the platter stacked in this way; you don’t have to buy it as such. But I would like to sell the flowers as a unit, though, simply because for one thing, you might enjoy the useful shapes and volumes of all the items, and for another, they just look best as a flower.

What’s the little doo-dad in the middle, you ask? Its a ramekin, turned up-side down into its own foot. Bake a custard in it. Or put it in the freezer to receive ice cream on the spot. Or as a closed vessel, it serves as a little dish with a big hat for your bedside jewelry, or pills, or a chocolate. Or a love note. Or…

One group each of these flowers are for sale in two other locations in Portland: Wellspent Market has one, and the Mom and Pop Wine Shop also has one, with my old friends Dan and Talina.

To be perfectly honest with you, I don’t know how to price them via this website, because each flower is a little different, and maybe you want the platter but not the extra bowls? Or one extra bowl and one cup? Plus, I can enter the shipping weights but it’s not accurate to the reality of shipping these things….. etc…. anyway, just give me a call if you’re interested.
