Woodfired Pair of Dishes

Woodfired Pair of Dishes

There is a very chill vibe at the Pleasant Hill Pottery which belies the dedication of the artists who fire there.  I was invited to fire the anagama and these plates turned out particularly well.  "Dirty" porcelain (has deliberate color retained in the clay body) is still a sweet smooth surface, painted by the fire only.  No applied glaze.  Marks from seashells.  Fired to vitrification, so they are completely impervious to water and bacteria.  These dishes are a multi-purpose low bowl or upright plate, comfortable at the table or in the hand.
