Tight Line Divot Bowl

Tight Line Divot Bowl

The divot is a central feature in my work, referring to the space within, to mutable transitions between surface and interior. For a potter in particular to interrupt the space that is ostensibly purely for the service of food is a bit heretical, yet I do it. For Waterstone Gallery, I took a moment to scale up and also refine the gesture in its own right: what is the divot when it becomes the central mark of the sculpture?

I took pains to be sure that the bottom edge was crisp, as everything else naturally flowed from that point. Snap it up before I trade it for a painting a local fine gentleman Scott Conary!
