Woodfired Fermentation Crocks

Woodfired Fermentation Crocks

270.00

Fired for 5 days with the help of an all-female firing crew at the beautiful anagama kiln at Six Ponds Artist Retreat made my Steve Sauer, these crocks are a special version of my standard porcelain and stoneware crocks.  I have two large ones that hold a gallon and a half, and one half-gallon (the first in the group of photos).  The stated weight includes that of weight stones (5 lbs for the larger ones).  The half gallon has one set of stones, the larger ones have two sets of stones at different sizes, so that you could fill half the crock if you'd prefer.  Sadly, both larger ones have a cosmetic blemish in that the inner join of the lid parts that I have repaired with PC7. It does not come in contact with the foods.

These crocks are wheel-thrown using fine-grained porcelaneous clay, and glazed with a Shino glaze on the interior.  All other color is a result of the unique firing atmosphere in which flame is touching the clay and painting on it.
